tirto.id – The Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) considers KPU Bali’s plan to invite political parties to draft an agreement so that the Simultaneous Regional Elections are not decorated with billboards, an anticipatory step.
Perludem Program Manager Fadli Ramadhanil, Pilkada without billboards in order not to damage the environment and the view is to build mutual awareness.
“This is a very good initiative in my opinion (Anticipatory step). Building mutual awareness. It is also important to note that the candidate pairs do not avoid if later there are those who put up on behalf of volunteers and so on,” Fadli said when contacted by Tirto, Monday (07/15/2024).
On the other hand, he said, in addition to anticipatory steps, law enforcement is also important to continue to be carried out firmly and consistently. The installation of campaign props (APK) is regulated in the Election Law, but there are places where APKs cannot be installed.
“Regulated, yes. But, there are specific places that should not be installed. Protocol roads, trees, public facilities, houses of worship, and those that damage the scenery and environment,” said Fadli.
On a separate occasion, Deputy Chairperson of PAN, Viva Yoga Mauladi, assessed that KPU Bali’s plan was good so as not to damage the environment and road scenery.
However, he said, the installation of APKs has been regulated in Law number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections and PKPU. ”
“If it is agreed, I don’t think it will damage the environment, if it is for scenery, it is okay to add to the excitement of democracy. As long as you don’t put billboards on trees, nail them down, not in protocol places according to the rules in the Regional Government, that’s not allowed,” Viva told Tirto.
According to Viva, regulating the installation of APK is fine, but it should not be prohibited. He considered that the vibrancy of democracy would be reduced if the KPU prohibited the installation of billboards.
“If then there is no need for installation, yes, the value of the lively democracy will decrease,” said Viva.
Viva said that the installation of billboards is also limited, even two days before the calm period all APKs must be cleaned. Therefore, it is not right if the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada is without billboards.
“It’s okay, right, also limited by time for the campaign period. So, before H-2 has also been cleaned as clean as possible,” concluded Viva Yoga.
