The Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) proposes that the Revision of the Political Party Law be included in the 2024-2029 National Legislation Program. This was conveyed by Perludem Executive Director Khoirunnisa Nur Agustyati during the Legislation Body meeting, Wednesday (30/10).

“Dear leaders and members of the Legislation Body, we also encourage the revision of the Political Party Law,” Khoirunnisa said at the meeting.

Perludem considers that the current Political Party Law requires several improvements. One of the improvements is related to strengthening democracy within political parties.

According to him, the revision should be done considering that the Political Party Law has not been revised for a long time.

“For example, related to how to encourage better internal democracy of political parties, so that our political parties become increasingly institutionalized political parties,” he said.

By focusing the revision on the internal democracy of political parties, it can make Indonesia’s political system functionally stronger.

Moreover, currently political party officials also fill public official positions.

“Today, all filling of public officials must come from political parties, so it requires political parties that can be better institutionalized,” he concluded.
