Jakarta- In welcoming the 2024 simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada), Perludem, invites all elements of society to jointly maintain the quality of democracy. Pilkada is not only a place to choose regional leaders, but also an important moment to strengthen citizen participation in an honest, fair and transparent political process. Active participation of the community is needed to ensure that the elections run in accordance with democratic principles and are free from fraudulent practices.
As the owner of the votes, the community has an important role in determining the direction of regional development. However, quality elections depend not only on voter turnout, but also on the integrity of the entire process. Threats such as money politics and potential manipulation of election results can undermine public trust in democracy. Therefore, a joint commitment is needed to reject all forms of fraud and actively oversee the elections.
Perludem believes that quality elections are born from the contribution of every citizen. Therefore, there are several things that can be done by the community as a concrete step in supporting the 2024 Pilkada. Ahead of the voting day in the 2024 Pilkada on November 27, 2024 tomorrow, we convey the following points:
1. Voters Come to the Polling Station and Vote
Exercising the right to vote is a form of real participation in determining the future of the region. We invite all eligible people to come to the polling stations (TPS) and use their voting rights wisely. Voters are also expected to participate in guarding the purity of voters’ votes that have been given in the voting booth;
2. Guarding Money Politics
Rejecting money politics is an important step to maintain the integrity of the elections. We invite the public to reject the practice of money politics, and report any findings or indications of money politics practices to election supervisors. The active participation of the community in fighting money politics will be the key to the success of democracy.
3. Conducting Election Monitoring
We also invite voters and the entire community to participate in the monitoring process during the voting day, counting, and recapitulation of votes. Monitoring from the community will help ensure transparency and prevent fraud in the election process.
Let’s work together to maintain trust in the democratic process in the 2024 elections. Every small step we take will have a big impact on the future of the nation.
